Docents lead educational tours throughout the Garden! If you're interested in Japanese culture and gardens, this is the best way to learn more about both! Docent training is held during the fall each year. For more information, please visit http://www.niwa.org/docent-training. Garden Assistants perform basic upkeep duties such as weeding, watering, sweeping, etc. Scheduling is flexible and prior gardening knowledge is not required. If you have more advanced or specialized knowledge of garden or facilities, please indicate your skill set in the comment box beneath the "Garden Assistant" checkbox. Special Events are temporary volunteers for our seasonal events, such as Cherry Blossom Festival and December Nights. You will be emailed as events arise. If you are Intern, Department Assistant, Summer Camp Counselor, or any other type of volunteers approved by the Volunteer Coordinator, please check "Other".

CONSENT FOR CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK AND SIGNATURE:
*
As an applicant for a volunteer position with the Japanese Friendship Garden of San Diego, I realize that a thorough criminal background investigation is conducted to qualify me for volunteering. I have the right to be treated fairly and have my privacy respected. Volunteers will be given the opportunity to challenge the accuracy of information that the Japanese Friendship Garden receives. I understand that the Japanese Friendship Garden of San Diego must verify my date of birth and social security number in order to conduct a criminal background investigation. The Japanese Friendship Garden of San Diego may request that I show a valid photo ID and/or other identification information at the time of becoming a garden volunteer. Signature I certify with my digital signature, that the information contained in this application is true and correct to the best of my knowledge and agree to have any of the statements checked by the Japanese Garden unless I have indicated to the contrary. I understand that volunteer placement is a selection process and not all applicants are accepted into the program. I also understand that the Japanese Garden reserves the right to place volunteers in the area that staff feels is best suited to both their skills and the needs of the Japanese Garden. In consideration of my voluntarism, I agree to conform to the rules and standards of the Japanese Garden. I further agree that my volunteer position can be terminated at will, with or without notice, at any time, either at my will or at the will of the Japanese Garden. I agree that this constitutes an integrated agreement with the respect to the at-will nature of my volunteer relationship, that it is final and binding and that there are no oral or collateral agreements regarding the issue. Furthermore, this application does not constitute, in any way, that I am a paid employee of the Japanese Friendship Garden of San Diego, nor its affiliates and I am solely a non-paid volunteer of the Japanese Garden by my own will and understanding. Nor does this document act as promise of future paid employment at the Japanese Garden. I have read and understand this document in its entirety and by signing below I agree to comply fully with all rules and regulations set forth by Japanese Friendship Garden of San Diego. I also understand that the Japanese Garden reserves the right to change, modify, revoke, update this document and/or any rules, regulations, processes, procedures, etc. at any time and for any reason.
Thank you!
