Thank you for your interest in visiting the Japanese Friendship Garden & Museum.

We look forward to groups enjoying our garden via a self-guided tour or a docent-led tour.

Guests will learn about the history of the Japanese Friendship Garden and Museum, as well as Japanese gardening principles and techniques.

Please read the policies outlined below prior to submitting a private tour request.


SUBMITTING A REQUEST FOR A PRIVATE TOUR (GROUPS,ORGANIZATIONS, FAMILIES)

  • Please submit a request at least four weeks prior to the requested tour date.

  • Once your request has been received, please allow one week for volunteer docent recruitment (If you haven’t heard from us in a week, please feel free to contact us.)

  • After your tour has been tentatively confirmed, an invoice for payment will be sent to finalize your tour. (Payments are due within one week of receipt of invoice.)

  • Once finalized, enjoy the private tour of the Japanese Friendship Garden and Museum! Looking forward to seeing you!


JAPANESE FRIENDSHIP GARDEN and Museum PRIVATE TOUR POLICIES

  • Tours are not offered on the Resident-Free Tuesdays, Holidays nor Special Events (Cherry Blossom Festival, Children’s Day, Tanabata, Toro Nagashi).

  • Maximum number of guests on a docent-led tour is 10. Maximum number of guests on a self-guided tour is 20.

Tours are subject to docent availability. Thank you for your understanding.

Please note: a non-refundable private tour fee of $10 for every 10 guests will be charged.

Garden Arrival

• Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start of your tour. If your group is larger than 10 people, it will be necessary to separate the large group into smaller sub-groups. Please designate groups/chaperones prior to your arrival to the garden.

School Chaperones

• For student groups, we require 1 chaperone for every 15 students (students grade 2+); student groups of TK-1st grade, we require one chaperone for every 10 students.

Cancellation Policy

• Out of consideration for our volunteers and staff, a minimum cancellation notice of 48 hours is required. Please contact the Visitor Engagement Coordinator at visitorengagement@niwa.org as soon as possible.


Public Docent Tours

Join a docent-led tour to learn about the history of the Japanese Friendship Garden and Museum as well as Japanese Gardening Principles and techniques. Free with paid admission. This is on a first come, first served basis. Please note public tours are available based on docent availability.
