Looking for a beautiful backdrop for your photoshoot? Whether you're looking to take photos for your wedding, engagement, family, maternity or any other special occasion, the Japanese Friendship Garden is the perfect setting!
Dates & Availability
Reservations are required for morning photoshoots. No walk-ins accepted and reservations must be confirmed in advance. Please submit an inquiry with your desired and alternate dates.
Times
Morning photoshoots reservations are designated between 9:00am and 10:00am during nonpublic visiting hours.
Pricing
Morning Photoshoot Reservations are $150 for the hour plus admission, and is due in full at time of booking. Additional time may be purchased at $50/hour during public visiting hours. Photoshoot fees are non-refundable. Photoshoots are available rain or shine. A date change is permitted for a $50 fee. An additional fee may apply to commercial uses for magazines, advertisement, or other media publications. Please include this information in your inquiry to obtain accurate information and rates.
What’s Included
Morning photoshoot reservations include the following:
Access to the outdoor areas of the Upper and Lower Gardens during the reserved time slot.
Parking with close proximity to enter the garden.
A staff member will be available to meet you at the designated entry point at the start of your reservation to provide access into the venue.
Bridal room access available for an additional fee.
The following are not included:
Photographers & videographers.
Indoor access to exhibits or buildings. Please remain on pathways at all times.
Weddings, ceremonies, or proposals are not permitted during this reservation. Click here to view other private event offerings.
Private use of the space - Although not open to the public during morning photoshoots, staff and volunteers may be present in the garden. Please anticipate noise from garden equipment, concurring photoshoot groups, and programs.
Private Morning Proposals
No setup $500
Use of a musician or setup required (arch, florals/petals, candles, signage, etc.)
Upper Garden: $900 Mon-Thurs / $1,100 Fri-Sun
Lower Garden: $1,100 Mon-Thurs / $1,400 Fri-Sun
Requirements
All uses of images/film in print, web, broadcast, or any other public medium require the location credit.
No indoor spaces other than the restrooms may be utilized, so we recommend coming dressed and ready to go.
No food is permitted on site, but you may have bottled water or beverages.

General photoshoot guidelines
Drones are prohibited
No use of cigarettes or vapes
Remain on paths. For your safety, please do not climb on rocks or trees.
No obstruction to pathways
No altering of facilities, signage or moving of equipment. Picking flowers or plants is prohibited and damaging to the living collection.
Do not feed Koi fish or toss coins into ponds or water features.
Use of images/film for commercial advertising, or promotional purposes require written consent by the JFGM. The garden will obtain copies of media or photos for any commercial photos or film productions for records.

$95 hourly fee plus admission: Personal/Formal Filming: (No Reservation Required)

$150 hourly fee plus admission: Morning Photoshoot Reservation (during non-public visiting hours)
Ex: Photo shoots for commercial or personal use during
$425 hourly fee plus admission: Filming (Reservation Required)
Ex: Filming for TV shows, commercials, films etc.
*Additional fees ranging from $25 to $100 may apply in the case of added props for the photo shoot. Some props may also be deemed inappropriate or not allowed at all. Please contact the Private Events Department for inquiries or additional questions at private-events@niwa.org.
