The Japanese Friendship Garden is delighted to present "テープアート:Tape Art”, an exhibition by southern California artist, Chiho Harazaki.
Chiho draws with adhesive tape instead of traditional medium. She was fascinated with adhesive tape as her primary medium to create her work as she cuts tape into shapes using knives and scissors and assembles the miniature pieces of tape to compose a whole image. Her intriguing work brings a unique and modern take on subject matter that is typically produced through modern graphic illustration and traditional art mediums like wood prints and paper cutting.
In this exhibition, Chiho brings a series of work that introduces the culture of everyday life in Japan such as Hanafuda — a style of Japanese playing cards — and more specifically, Hiroshima, as a way to promote eternal peace.
Chio Harazaki was born and raised in Japan and later moving and settling in Los Angeles where her artworks have been displayed in group exhibitions and magazines throughout the United States.
