Call for artists!

The Japanese Friendship Garden and Museum calls for artists to submit original artwork inspired by celebrating Japanese Pop Culture within the San Diego community. Submissions received will debut at the 2024 Otaku Smash Fest and be on display from October 19th through November 2024 inside the Education Center. Submissions are open to local, national, professional, and amateur artists with various mediums allowed.


Timeline and Details

  • Submission deadline: October 13, 2024 at 11:59PM PST

  • Delivery deadline: October 14, 2024 (10AM-4PM PST)

  • Submissions must not exceed 8.5in. x 11in. For larger dimensions, please email education@niwa.org for consideration. Submissions must be framed, if needed.

  • A submission does not guarantee your artwork will be selected for display. The Education and Programs Coordinator will notify you if your submission has been selected.

How To submit your art

Email the following to education@niwa.org

  1. First and last name

  2. Phone number

  3. Photo of artwork - file name must include last name with a number (Ex. Smith1, Smith2)

  4. Dimensions of artwork

*The JFGM Education and Programs Coordinator will notify you of your submission status.
*The above information is required for consideration of having your artwork displayed at JFGM.
*The artist is responsible for all shipping or transportation costs.
*Please note that submissions must be appropriate for all audiences as deemed by JFGM.
