Tanabata is a seasonal festival based on Japanese folklore. In a story of unrequited love, Princess Orihime and Prince Hikoboshi are separated by a river of stars. Every year on July 7, Orihime and Hikoboshi are able to cross the river to meet each other unless it rains. It is customary to make two wishes on Tanabata – one for clear skies so the two may meet and another wish for yourself in hopes that the day will be lucky for you, too.
